Prevent at Melbourn Village College

The Prevent Action Plan 2025–26 for Melbourn Village College can be found on this page.

We are all here to protect students and young people from harm. It can be difficult to know when extreme views cross the line into something dangerous, and the signs of radicalisation are not always obvious.

It might be nothing, it might be something. Whatever you’re worried about, here is some guidance and resources to help.

Radicalisation is the process by which a person comes to support terrorism and extremist ideologies. If you’re concerned that someone close to you may be at risk, it’s important to act early and seek help. The sooner we intervene, the better we can protect individuals from being groomed and exploited by extremists.

Police forces across the country have specially trained Prevent Officers who work with schools and other organisations through the Home Office’s Prevent programme to support those vulnerable to radicalisation.

Friends, family, and staff are often best placed to spot the signs. Trust your instincts.

Possible Signs of Radicalisation
  • Social withdrawal or isolation
  • Mood changes or difficult behaviour
  • Increased internet use
  • New friends, clothing, or changes in appearance
  • Loss of interest in usual activities
  • Following extremist material online
  • Resentment toward authority figures or an “us vs them” mentality
  • Secretive behaviour
