At Melbourn Village College we are committed to developing the key values of our students. We are dedicated to nurturing the whole student. We are creating a character curriculum which is designed to foster the development of ethical, moral, and social values in students.
Its purpose encompasses several key areas:
Moral Development: Aims to instil a strong sense of right and wrong, helping students develop a moral compass to guide their decisions and actions.
Emotional Intelligence: Focuses on nurturing emotional awareness and regulation, teaching students how to manage their emotions effectively and empathetically understand others' feelings.
Social Skills: Enhances interpersonal skills, including communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution, preparing students to interact positively in diverse social environments.
Personal Responsibility: Encourages accountability and self-discipline, promoting a sense of personal responsibility for one's actions and their consequences.
Resilience and Perseverance: Builds resilience by teaching students how to cope with challenges, setbacks, and failures, fostering a growth mindset and perseverance.
Community and Citizenship: Instils a sense of community and civic responsibility, encouraging students to contribute positively to society and understand the importance of civic engagement.
Ethical Leadership: Prepares students for leadership roles by promoting integrity, fairness, and ethical decision-making.
Character Traits: Emphasizes the development of core character traits such as honesty, respect, kindness, and empathy.
By integrating these elements, we aim to create well-rounded individuals who not only excel academically but also possess the moral and social foundation necessary to lead fulfilling and responsible lives. This holistic approach supports the development of students into conscientious and capable members of society. Our programme promotes the national guidance on pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) development, relationships, and health education alongside citizenship within the national curriculum.
To develop into respectful and responsible young adults we feel positive life experiences are key. Our curriculum outside the classroom is vital to this. Our aim to offer as many culturally valuable experiences as possible. Students are given the opportunity to attend various clubs both in lunch and after school free of charge- with transport home available.
We also organise in school activities to promote different aspects of development, such as COP 28, meeting and working with local MPs, Anti bullying ambassadors training for our students, and further careers development. We extend this with a wonderful offer of trips and experiences, both national and international trips experiencing a different culture first hand.
