2nd November 2018

  • We are pleased to report that all 3 competitors from MVC won gold in their respective weight groups at the Eastern Area Schools Judo Championships over half term: Daisy King (U44kg), Lara Haslam (U52kg)Rebecca Frisby (O57kg)Daisy was taking no prisoners and won strongly with some great counters and big throwsLara had to fight a girl in the weight category above and struggled with the 6kg weight difference, completing a massive Uchi-nata throw in the end. Rebecca fought hard and won with a couple of great throws. Well done.

  • On Monday, our year 10 sports leaders volunteered with the running of the High 5s Netball Tournament at MVC; this involved umpiring matches, keeping score, time keeping and interacting with parents and students. Praised for their professionalism and ability to umpire, they were excellent role models for the College, so thanks for all your hard work to Lily SmithJess BoultonEmily HaydockVicky KayMikaela FoumakisAdden Tokley and Alfie Pearl.

  • On Tuesday, the Year 8 Hockey team participated in the South Cambs hockey tournament; the girls worked incredibly hard in very cold conditions with a win against Soham and closely fought matches against St Mary’,s, Parkside and the eventual winners, Sawston. Well done to the whole team who have progressed greatly this season.

  • Also on Tuesday, Lucy Dickinson attended her first session at the County Young Coach Academy. We are looking forward to seeing her coaching some of the younger pupils in the College.

  • Well done to our Year7 boys, who finished third in the Cambridge & District School Sports Association Rugby Tournament at Cambridge Rugby Club this week. This is the best achievement among the rugby teams at MVC; many of the boys are new to contact rugby and have made exceptional progress. Well done boys. This was the final boys rugby tournament and basketball fixtures are now starting for all year groups.

  • Royston rugby club run weekly touch rugby age 14+ sessions on Wednesday evenings 7.30-9pm - mixed gender and ages. They currently have several teenagers (mainly girls) playing alongside Royston rugby club parents/coaches and some others. Do go and try it!

  • Today, we were delighted to welcome to the College, Dave Smith, writer, speaker and former stand-up comedian. For the past 8 years, Dave has been inspiring teenagers throughout the UK to create their own opportunities and grasp new ones, in his lively and interactive presentations, so we are really pleased that our Year 11 had this remarkable opportunity to work with him just before their mock exams.

  • Parents / Carers of Year 7, be aware that there are performances of the play of "Private Peaceful", which is being shown at the Broadway Theatre in Letchworth on 20-21 November. As Year 7 are studying this, it’s certainly worth seeing this performance. https://www.broadway-letchworth.com/theatre/whats-on/private-peaceful
