SLT Update June 28th

28th June 2019

  • Congratulations to our Year 9 Language Leaders on completing their teaching in our feeder primary schools this week. Mrs Stanley has reported that you have worked really hard on preparing high quality lessons and have gained confidence in your delivery throughout the process. Well done.
  • Well done also to our year 9 technology students, who have just completed their polymorph project. Students constructed a moisture sensing circuit encased in polymorph with a pot to use with the sensor.
  • Yesterday Mr Holmes attended the Cambridgeshire Secondary Heads conference. Presentations included topics such as the latest education research, knowledge rich curriculums and mental health/wellbeing for students and staff.
  • Today Mr Holmes is attending a Mandarin Excellence Program conference in Ingatestone at the Anglo European school, looking at different aspects of the program including pathways at sixth form.
  • Year 10 reports went out earlier this week. Mr Holmes, who read every single one, was extremely impressed by the hard work and conscientious effort that the vast majority of the year group are showing. Well done and keep it up!
  • Our new prefects have come up with some ideas for Sports Day to get the ball rolling on raising money for their prom next year – by offering to do glittery transfer stickers and selling ice pops. Please bring a small amount of money to help them raise funds. Sports Day is on Wednesday, 10th July.
    • Please note that there is a current consultation out regarding a cycleway between Melbourn and Royston, including a bridge over the A505. A cycleway such as this would benefit a number of MVC students: https://a10corridorcycle.com/2019/06/23/melbourn-royston-cycle-bridge-melbourn-greenway-consultation-now-live/
    • Date for your diary: The Year9/10 CERN trip to the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva will take place in July 2020.
    • Finally, I will be accompanying our first MEP trip to China on Tuesday, so will hand over to Mr Holmes to do the final few SLT round ups of the academic year. I will try and put photos of our trip on the MVC Facebook page.

Have a good weekend.
