At Melbourn Village College, we are excited to introduce our MVC Futures Programme - new for September 2025. Our MVC Futures programme acknowledges all aspects of students' lives and has career-related learning at its core.
Rooted in our core values of Kindness, Curiosity, and Resilience, MVC Futures encourages students to develop important life skills and prepare for ambitious, successful futures.
We know that a child’s development doesn’t stop at the school gates. Experiences at home, in the community, and through personal interests all play an important role in shaping how young people learn and grow.
MVC Futures recognises and celebrates these wider experiences, encouraging students to demonstrate our values wherever they are – whether in the classroom, helping in the community, on the sports field, at home, or beyond.
Each year group receives a Futures Booklet appropriate for their stage, full of fun and meaningful challenges to complete both in and out of school. These tasks are designed to encourage students to:
Form Tutors support students by monitoring progress within student booklets. Our rewards programme acknowledges achievements within MVC Futures with awards are given in recognition of completed challenges. Students do not need to complete every challenge but can select the ones that they would like to complete. We ask parents to support students to complete their challenges which they can then discuss with their Form Tutors.
For older students the evidence gathered of challenges completed in their MVC Futures booklet can support their post 16 application information.
Each half term we host a variety of MVC Futures Talks led by professionals from a wide range of careers and industries. These sessions are designed to:
These talks give students a chance to ask questions, consider what skills, qualifications and experiences lead to those roles and start thinking about their own aspirations. Throughout the year student career aspirations are matched to talks so that students have opportunity to attend talks aligned with their future plans. Students are encouraged to attend a minimum of two talks during the academic year.
If you would like to come and share your career journey and help inspire our students – please contact Mrs Elvin, Assistant Principal at eelvin@melbournvc.org
At Melbourn Village College, we believe that careers education is not just about choosing a job – it's about helping students discover their interests, develop their strengths, and build the confidence to shape their own future. Beyond the MVC Futures Programme sits our full careers offer across the school. Our careers curriculum is designed to broaden horizons, spark ambition, and ensure every student is informed and prepared for their next steps.
