SLT Update March 23 2018

23rd March 2018

  • Congratulations to Daisy King in Year 7, who competed in the British Schools Championships in judo in Sheffield last weekend. 700 athletes, who were all regional medallists, competed and Daisy won gold for MVC in the under-44kg girls section. She was in a pool of 15 girls and won all three of her fights by ippon.
  • Our Year 8 enterprise competition is in full swing. Yesterday, Henry Comfort, Tom Stewart and Gary Deegan from CUFC met them to help promote the sales of their tickets.
  • Our students have kindly organised a leaving party today for Euan Walpole in Year 11. As part of their World Of Work Programme, they have been working on setting goals and making decisions – and making some very yummy cakes.
  • You’ll see an addition to our website – we are participating in the Framework for Exceptional Education in the area of curriculum design. More on this soon.
  • Well done to Mrs Stanley on getting a prize for a MFL pun competition this week with ¿Qué 🔑eres?
  • Henry Kay, Iestyn Hill, Ben Woodrow and Dexter Todd participated in the Salter’s Chemistry Festival at Cambridge University yesterday, competing against other schools in 2 Chemistry challenges.
  • Well done to Jennifer Weight Burton on organising the Year 8 cake sale in aid of Cancer Research UK yesterday.
  • Wednesday was the regional semi-final and final of the Year 7 Spelling Bee, with our team frustratingly missing out on the final by just 1 point. Sophie Paterson reported; ‘I had a great experience. I made it into the tie-break and really enjoyed having the support of all my friends too.’

  • The Year 7 football tournament took place on Tuesday at Chesterton Community College. There were some excellent individual performances in both the 'A' and 'B' teams. The following day the Year 7 and year 8 teams played against Cambourne winning 3 of the 5 games. Man of the match performances from Dexter Todd and Henry Silver.
  • On Wednesday and Thursday, Mr Holmes took part in The Cam Academy Trust review at Comberton Village College, helping them with their self-evaluation and development process. It is always a pleasure to visit our fellow Trust schools and have the opportunity to spend time looking closely at what they do and we always bring back ideas to improve things here at MVC.
  • Today, our students have raised money for Sport Relief by wearing non-uniform and have also organised an assault course for both staff and students – we’ll let you know the winning team in due course.
  • All Individual GCSE Exam Timetables will be issued on Monday.

Have a good weekend.

Deputy Principal
