Senior Leadership Weekly Round-Up
February 2nd 2018
ï‚· On Monday and Tuesday this week we welcomed Senior Leaders from across the Cam Academy Trust as part of our peer to peer review programme, where we share ideas and visit each other’s schools. These have turned out to be extremely useful visits as part of our ongoing self-evaluation and development processes.
ï‚· News of talented students continues to filter through into PE. Daisy King has been selected to attend regional England development squad for judo, the youngest person selected. Rebecca Frisby is also competing in regional judo competitions, and Harriet Henry and Ruby Want are part of the U13 girls football squad for Cambridge City. Congratulations and the best of luck to all of them. Please continue to update us with news of any achievements at county levels and above.
ï‚· Sporting enrichments are proving very popular this term with football, netball and dodgeball all achieving high numbers of participants. We are pleased to be able to offer gym club on a Monday from 3-4pm for any yr 7 girls who might be interested. This will run until Easter.
ï‚· Over 100 students from years 9, 10 and 11 took part in the UK Mathematics Trust Maths challenge on Thursday. This national event stretches the abilities of our most able mathematicians and provides those who do well with a well-deserved bronze, silver or gold certificate. Good luck to all those who participated.
ï‚· Today we have a large group of Yr10 and Yr11 students attending the excellent Science Live event in London.
ï‚· Please can students going on the ski trip hand in their spending money in Euros to finance or ski trip leader. There will be a short final meeting for all skiers next Tuesday 6th February in the gym at 1.15pm. Everyone should attend in order to be given last minute instructions. We are fortunate in that a teacher from a nearby school is giving up her time to help MVC staff with this trip. Please make her welcome when she comes into school on Friday.
ï‚· Next Tuesday is Yr9 Options Evening. We look forward to seeing all Yr9 students and parents at this event which signals the official start of the Options process.
ï‚· Yr11 students will get their GCSE Examination statements of entry next week during Thursday’s PSHE day.
ï‚· The History and Science trip to Warwick Castle on 25th May is now open to Year 8 students. A letter has gone out today via ParentPost and the deadline for return is 23rd February. This should be a really exciting and valuable educational experience. Dr Wilson explains “when science meets history it’s always explosive and memorable”.
ï‚· Finally, please note that next Friday, 9th February, is a normal school day. In some early versions of the calendar this was identified as a Training Day – this was subsequently moved to Friday 29th June.
Have a good weekend,
Simon Holmes
Principal
