SLT Update February 23rd

23rd February 2018

You will have seen our ski trip daily updates on Facebook over the half term. The 42 students and 5 staff travelled to Flattach in Austria and took part in 5 hours of skiing lessons each day, followed by après ski activities, including Austrian bowling, ice skating and tobogganing. Everyone came home tired but uninjured, and many successes were seen on the slopes. Well done to one and all. Looking forward to SKI 2020! ï‚· At the start of half term, it was through the wardrobe, down the rabbit hole and straight on to Hogwarts and the Shire for two year 10 students. Stephanie Davidson and Faith Crockford (along with hundreds of others) descended on Cheney School, Headington, Oxford for the first ever Iris Festival of Imagined Worlds, which celebrated the spellbinding works of fantasy authors. Both girls entered the costume competition with Stephanie dressed as Queen Lucy from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and Faith dressed as The White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. All in all, they had a fantastic time.
ï‚· Three of our students recently entered a national creative writing competition and I am pleased to announce that they have been asked for permission to publicise their mini sagas in the Stranger Sagas – Hertfordshire anthology. Skye, Remy and Millie were 3 out of over 20,000 entries. They were given a choice of titles and they were required to write a complete story using only 100 words. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be announced soon and I am sure you will all join me in wishing Remy, Millie and Skye the best of luck. Nevertheless, they should be proud of their achievement so far. Congratulations and well done.
ï‚· Netball fixtures against BVC & Sawston took place on Wednesday. The U16s narrowly lost to Sawston and also to Bassingbourn. The U14s beat Sawston but lost to Bassingbourn.
ï‚· A new enrichment activity – Gym Club – is now being offered to KS3 on a Monday 3-4pm. Please just turn up if interested and we will register you on the day. Sports leaders will be involved in many festivals this term, including high 5 netball, tag rugby and the Level 3 County School Games Spring Finals in March.
ï‚· Yesterday, all our year 11 maths students had the opportunity of a second maths mock examination to check on their progress. All students worked very hard and are progressing well towards achieving very successful results in June.
ï‚· This morning, several year 8 students took part in their introductory session for The Enterprise Challenge at Cambridge United Football Club. We look forward to hearing more about their business ideas.
ï‚· Please see attached below for our local netball and athletics Easter Activity Camps.
ï‚· Year 9 parents and carers: please remember that it’s your Year 9 Parents’ Evening from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday, 27th February. We look forward to seeing you all there.
ï‚· Lastly, I have now finished my secondment at St Peter’s School, so am back to do your SLT Round Up. Working in a different school within our Trust was a hugely valuable leadership experience, which I hope will improve my work at MVC.
Have a good weekend.
