Admissions

We welcome applications from all members of the local community.

Our partner primary schools are Barrington, Fowlmere, Foxton, Harston and Newton, Hauxton, Melbourn, Meldreth and Thriplow, but each year we also welcome a number of students from further afield, including from Hertfordshire. Students living outside the catchment area often come to school using the train (the station at Meldreth is a short walk from the school) or the MVC-run coach from Royston.

Please see the relevant Admissions policy for details on how to apply for a place at MVC. Should you have any questions, require any assistance or want to visit the school before making an application please phone 01763 223400 or email office@melbournvc.org.

A map of our school catchment area is shown below, or you can explore our catchment area in more detail on Cambridgeshire County Council's interactive map.

How to apply for a place in Year 7

The application process for admissions into Year 7 is co-ordinated by Cambridgeshire Local Authority (LA), which acts on behalf of the governing body to offer places at the school. Parents should apply online at www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/admissions or submit a Cambridgeshire Application Form, available from their child’s primary school or from the LA Admissions team, no later than the LA deadline at the end of October. Offer letters will be issued by the LA on the National Offer Date (1st March or first working day after). Late applications (those submitted between the October deadline and the end of the co-ordination period) will be handled by the Admissions team.

For further information and specific dates, please refer to the full scheme for secondary co-ordination, available from the LA Admissions Team or from the website, www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/admissions

All parents are advised to read the ‘Next Steps’ Local Authority booklet for parents on secondary admissions.

Year 7 Transition and Admission arrangements

Open Evening

Our Open Evening when all year 6 students can visit and see every department of the school will be Thursday 28th September 2023. We will open at 6:00pm and the evening will end at 8:30pm.

For more information about transition see Year 6 Transition here.

How to apply for places in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11

For applications for places in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 at any time of the year, a Local Authority ‘in-year’ application form must be completed and returned to the Local Authority Admissions team. See website www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/admissions

In the event of over-subscription the criteria set out in our Admissions Policy (see panel on the left of this page) will be applied and places offered in accordance with those criteria.

Parents wishing to visit the school prior to submitting an application are welcome to do so. However, this is not always possible to organise at short notice and visits are usually conducted in small groups. Visits are not interviews and do not affect any decision regarding the availability of a place.
